Meet Hunter

Portraiture requires an innate eye and a firm grasp of equipment, but behind the best images, there's a relationship. It may exist for a split second, or it may be developed over years. When a person feels like themself, whether that's at their most beautiful or simply comfortable in their own skin, images convey a visceral authenticity.

A passion to capture and share the human experience led Hunter McRae to her career in photography. In 2002, she gave up a Division 1 tennis scholarship to transfer to UNC-Chapel Hill, where she garnered numerous awards at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. After an internship at National Geographic and skill-building assignments in Spain, Chile and South Africa, Hunter spent six years as a staff photographer at the Longmont Times-Call (Co.), the Colorado Springs Gazette and the Savannah Morning News.

In 2010, after a cross-country train journey, Hunter took a leap of faith and opened Hunter McRae Photography, a boutique photography studio specializing in portraiture. Whether she's photographing a vacationing family or orphans in Uganda, a stunning Lowcountry wedding or corporate events in Las Vegas, Hunter's natural ability to put her subjects at ease leads to images that summon emotion.
